Visiting Naples

Naples travel guide

What to see, where to stay and how to get around: the tips we give our guests, from our attic at Corso Garibaldi 316.

Where to stay in Naples

If it's your first time in Naples and you don't have a car, the best area is in or around the historic centre, between Central Station and Spaccanapoli. You can walk almost everywhere, with the metro, trains to Pompeii and the airport shuttle close at hand.

Sloping Roof is right here: a 70 m² attic on the 5th floor of a historic building at Corso Garibaldi 316, with two bedrooms, a sofa bed, a whirlpool bath and room for 5 guests. Piazza Garibaldi is about a 7-minute walk away, Spaccanapoli about 8.

Spaccanapoli and the historic centre

The straight street that cuts the old city in two, a UNESCO World Heritage Site: churches, workshops, courtyards and pastry shops. About an 8-minute walk from the apartment.

San Gregorio Armeno and the Cathedral

The street of nativity-scene workshops, open all year round, and the Cathedral of San Gennaro. About a 12-minute walk.

Sansevero Chapel

In the historic centre, home to the Veiled Christ. Booking your ticket in advance is a good idea.

Napoli Sotterranea

Tunnels, cisterns and a Roman theatre beneath the city streets. About a 13-minute walk.

National Archaeological Museum

One of the world's great archaeological museums, with treasures from Pompeii and Herculaneum. By metro: Museo stop (Line 1) or Piazza Cavour (Line 2).

Via Toledo and the Spanish Quarter

Shopping, murals and narrow lanes. Toledo station on Line 1 is one of the most beautiful in Europe.

Piazza del Plebiscito and the seafront

The Royal Palace, Teatro San Carlo, Galleria Umberto I, then a stroll along the sea to Castel dell'Ovo.

Vomero and Castel Sant'Elmo

The hill with the widest view over the bay and Vesuvius. Go up by funicular or metro.

Getting around Naples

Trains to Pompeii and Sorrento

The Circumvesuviana leaves from Napoli Garibaldi, on the lower level of Central Station, about a 10-minute walk from the apartment.

On the same line, Ercolano Scavi stop: smaller than Pompeii and remarkably well preserved.
